9 French

Imagine travelling to France – or any French-speaking country – and being able to have a

conversation with the local people in their own language! The Year 9 French course is the beginning

of that journey.

There are a number of aspects of the course. You will continue to learn about French culture and

language. There will be the opportunity to learn about French food – including making and eating

crêpes or organising a French café!

You will also learn enough vocabulary and structures to be able to have short interactions in French

about your hobbies and interests, and to tell people a little bit about yourself. The course will teach

you to speak and write in French about familiar topics, such as school, your home, your whānau, and

your town. Most of this is done with the support of resources available both in the classroom and

online, and through the use of games and activities.

You will also learn about the lives and cultures of French speaking people and comparing them to

the lives of people you know in Aotearoa!
